The project was initiated in view of improving the public—health conditions of Dakar and the surrounding areas. The shortage of water supply and the lack of sewers in most of this region cause a very acute problem for more than two—thirds of the population. The Government of Senegal submitted a request for the establishment of a Master Plan for water supply and sewerage for Dakar and surrounding areas. The request was approved in June 1966. The Plan of Operation
was signed by all parties on 1 February 1968. The project was declared operational on 13 May 1968. |
